As of the 26th of November, record-breaking Grand Theft Auto 5 has taken a 40% discount on Amazon for US purchasers at $33.99, $26 down from its original $59.99 price tag. Best Buy also offered the open-world action/RPG game at this price with their Early Access Black Friday event, although this has since expired due to limited stock.
It’s no wonder the game sold so quick; pulling almost $1 billion on its first day and since subjected to rave reviews from critics and gamers alike, many were surely saving to grab it up for the holiday season.
Wal-Mart is meanwhile offering the Xbox 360 version of the game for $42.10 while the PS3 version has dropped only to $54.49, a mere 8% in savings. No reason has been given as to why this is the case, though it may be related to the Xbox 360’s notorious texture pop-outs bug if one were to install the wrong disc on the hard drive.
Unfortunately, it seems the UK hasn’t received such graces for GTA5’s pricing, either through Amazon or Wal-Mart. The game remains at its standard £41.99 price tag for both consoles, although anyone looking to buy a PS3 for the holidays can snag a free copy of the game from Amazon UK’s Black Friday Deals Week.
